Fake Alien from GoodLuckBuy – The Martian!!!

Goodluck buy has basically just copied the Alien to every last inch and guess what they have called it….The Martian (i know we laughed as well!!!!)

Everything down to the PDB and stand offs are identical, and credit where credits due Goodluck buy seem to  have made what seems to be a fairly decent quad for just $42.50!!!!!! When you compare that to the $130 for the real thing that’s insane!!!! Which explains why ImpulseRC dropped the price of the Alien in the last couple of weeks.
Of course we are not condoning cheap Chinese copying but you have to hand it to Goodluck Buy they have done a damn good job here. It really looks identical, the only tell tail sign we can see is the camera mount plates at the front.

It even has available a reasonable complement of spares which is almost unheard of for chinese frames other than the ZMR, in fact could this be the new ZMR and become the staple cheap well designed Chinese frame?

The specs Motor to moto: 230mm
– Material: Carbon fiber
– Weight: 130g (unlike ImpulseRC at least the chinese bother to put the dry weight up!!)
– 4mm carbon fiber arm
– 1.5mmm carbon fiber fuselage
– Recommand 2204-2208 motor
– Support up to 5 inch propellereem fairly decent as well

Really looks Identical (we could only tell becuase of the water marks!)

Martian 3

Even the PDB is the same

Martian 2

You can see the Camera plate is slightly different here (but it still has the handy holes for the Sony SuperHAD 600TVL):

  1. I already have an alien and I ordered a martian out of curiosity. Don’t do that. The arms are pretty much the same but the rest seems designed by a monkey on crack. It’s longer and wider, the cam mount it’s a joke. The pcb it’s a disaster waiting to happen. Adds the not-long-enough nuts and you have the martian. Save some more dollars and do yourself a favour, buy a genuine alien.

    • Interesting, i knew the Chinese were bad but I didn’t know they were that bad!!!!!

I know what you mean though, sometimes you think you’re saving money through buying a chinese knock off, but in the end you often end of spending more. Had a ZMR a couple of months back where so many arms broke i had to spend £36 (more than i paid for the frame) on 5mm Thug Arms which worked briantly btw, but it was a pain nevertheless.

Will have to tell Cyberdactl on the FT forums i know he just ordered one. Shame the chinese had a chance to make some big bucks, guess they just cut too many corners!!!

      • I’d like to add that use that frame with the kiss FC is impossible due to many high frequency vibrations. The frame is just not stiff enough. Maybe it was my fault because I ordered for mistake the version with 3mm arms, but the frame is unflyable, at least with the fiss FC. Same electronics (motor escs and FC) on the real alien ™, a piece of cake.

    • Its a shame yours doesn’t work, we orded one and it works brilliantly, its a real contender for the Alien!!!

  2. I think this fame will become the new ‘zmr’ or the industry. Lol

  3. The PDB is different to the alien – in a bad way. I produced a wicked short across the XT60 terminal solder. Smoke and flames – took a few days to get that smell out of the house. Good lesson in how well carbon fibre conducts. 5 minutes with a half round file sorted the frame out. Avoiding shorts across the PDB screw between the ESC solder points was trickier though. I shrink wrapped the cap-screw heads, and that worked. I reckon it flies okay now. But, being my first build, I don’t have much to compare to. Has certainly withstood much punishment from my amateur fly…crashing. I think there is a martian reptile version 2 that sorted many of the design problems, but they’re still selling version 1.

    • Interesting to hear, we have heard similar reports on the martian, most people tend to have issue with the PDB. Good job on your fixes/hacks, especially considering it’s your first build. We wish you all the best with your future builds.

  4. Thanks for the good writeup. It in truth was a amusement account
it. Look complex to far added agreeable from you! By the way,
how could we keep up a correspondence?

  5. My relatives every time say that I am wasting my time here at net, except I know
I am getting experience all the time by reading such pleasant posts.
